What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Brisbane members of this superannuation fund describe persistent difficulties with how their accounts are managed. Gaining access to money emerges as a recurring theme, including a case where funds intended for aged care were withheld for around nine months, creating substantial stress and financial strain for the family concerned. Several reviewers report that requests for a call back go unanswered, and that lodged complaints can sit without a response for weeks on end.

Fees attract further complaint, particularly administration charges levied on an account carrying a zero balance, including the stretch after joining when no contributions had yet been received. Alterations to insurance cover also appear, with reviewers describing death benefit protection that ceased following a merger and premiums that increased without clear advance notice. More positively, one member records a good experience with the fund to date. The issues raised most consistently concern access to funds, responsiveness to enquiries, and the clarity of fees and insurance arrangements, shaping how members regard their dealings with the organisation.

Be very very careful when applying for insurance with Aware Super. They have a sneaky habit of applying high premiums for cover without telling you - the first you'll find out is when you look at a monthly statement (assuming you do that diligently). You would think they would seek your actual consent or tell you what the price is before commencing an overpriced insurance policy!

Just had to merge with this company from my Telstra Account, where I had death benefit until age 75 years. This did not roll over as Aware age limit is 70 years. Was told by Telstra that this would continue with Aware. Please be AWARE if you are in the 70 to 75 age group, that if is not longer applicable with Aware.

You would be better off flushing your hard earned money down the toilet than letting aware super anywhere near it. My father needs access to his super to pay for aged care and in 9 months aware super has refused to release his money, causing an enormous amount of stress and financial hardship for him (and me). They dont call back when they ask you to leave a call back request, they dont respond to complaints (even after 6 weeks of waiting), they cant/wont help on the phone and their staff provide conflicting information. Honestly even Telstra has better customer service than aware super. Just horrible.

This superanuation fund is just like all the rest . They rip you off on fees. They charge you administration fees on an account that has NO money in it . Why should someone have to pay administration fees on a zero balance ? When you join up and it takes say 3 months for the first contribution to come in. They charge you from the day you joined. So you have no money in the account for 3 months . You are still charged admin fees .You are not doing anything , as there is no money to administer . Avoid this fund like the plague . Terrible fund .

Aware! Your online 'chat' is useless and your call centre even worse. I have waited over 4 weeks to action a super rollover and spent hours on hold to your call centre. Glad I'm going elsewhere.
