I have managed our family SMSF and personally invested its assets for the past 28 years. In January 2022 I met Emily Cooper, a principal and owner of SMSF Australia, for the first time. At the end of that first meeting, I signed up to her services and since then I have been delighted and incredibly impressed with the level of service and competency of Emily and her company. Having been a General Manager in the commercial world for 19 years before I retired 9 years ago, I feel confident in my judgement of people and their skills. During 2021 I researched online for a new fund service provider (not an adviser) and chose SMSF Australia for what I needed for our fund. I wanted first class service; reasonable office proximity to our home (for face-to-face meetings if required); value for money; and a smaller company for which our fund was important, and which would provide me with personal, quick responses and interaction. I hit the jackpot with Emily and SMSF Australia. I am a demanding but patient client and like to believe I understand when a service provider has genuine difficulties that they are trying to resolve. That was not the case with my previous service provider. Prior to Emily at SMSF Australia, my annual accounts and support services were provided by a well known SMSF service provider. Sadly, it was taken over by a large corporate entity and their service deteriorated markedly. For 25 years I had a personal account manager, and this important contact was removed by the company in 2020. I became just another account number with any assistance provided by an offshore call centre. After a year of this and after writing many emails and letters to advise the company of this poor state of affairs, I gave up. This was not a light decision as changing SMSF service providers requires a lot of work. As soon as I received my FY21 accounts from my previous service provider, I formally advised them of termination of service and commenced the transition to SMSF Australia. The extra work on my part was well worth it and paid off in spades. Just prior to the transition I had shifted our fund from Individual to Corporate Trustee with the purpose of admitting 3 of our children and our son-in-law into the fund. That has all just been completed and the support service from Emily for this journey was extraordinary. SMSF Australia uses Class Super SMSF Accounting Software to manage, track and update daily the assets of our fund. I have now reconciled the Class reports with my own excel spreadsheets which I have been running since 1995. I will now retire my spreadsheets on 1 July 2023, and it will save me a great deal of daily work. Besides, with 6 members now in the fund, it was becoming more difficult to accurately capture all the additional information relating to contributions, earnings and tax. Gone are the days of printing out or transmitting to my previous service provider all the various annual inputs such as dividend payments and the like. Class is seamless, automatic and captures everything on a daily basis. My task now is to monitor daily performance of the Fund in Class and to focus my efforts on investing for our Family SMSF. I am writing this review because I am so impressed with the service I have received from Emily and her team at SMSF Australia. Nothing has been too much trouble in getting our Family SMSF sorted out with new members and with the assets loaded correctly into Class. Over the last year, there have been many emails, long conversations and always the response time to my queries has been timely and professional. I highly recommend Emily and SMSF Australia to any SMSF trustee who is now confronted with the problems I had, and which have now evaporated.
